My name is Califia. I am the main artisan at The Bead Muse. I run this business from my home, with a little help from my husband when he is not working, or running his LIFE business.
Welcome to The Bead Muse!
My name is Califia Hurtado, and I am the artist behind the screen!
Here is a TL;DR
I, Califia Hurtado, have spent over six years studying rocks and jewelry components, perfecting my skills, and making pretty things.

I have decided to chase my artistic dreams and pursue the route of an artisan. In doing so, I have discovered that I do not enjoy being a manufacturer. I enjoy the process of creating art in all forms. As such, many of my pieces are one of a kind, especially my gemstone jewelry!
Many of the pieces listed here will be one of a kind, unique art pieces created to grace your home or your body!
I take special care in sourcing the best quality gemstones and supplies to create my work. I use stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, and anodized aluminum in my art. Every bead and stone is hand selected, whether for a tree sculpture or a piece of jewelry. My family and I often take trips to local rock shops and hot spots for collecting quality gemstones and other stones for the bases of my trees.
My ultimate goal in my business has always been to work with stones and create the highest quality artisan jewelry and art that I can. I have been passionate about art since I was a child, as well as wildlife and nature conservation. Some of my art is inspired by creatures around us, nature, and the beauty of natural stones. Some of my art is inspired by influential books, television shows, and more. I don't let inspiration go to waste, if I see something that triggers ideas, I do my best to run with it!
Much of my art is inspired by the gemstones and supplies that I source from both local sellers and trusted internet sellers.
Custom orders are often some of my more inspired pieces, as I am given a glimpse into what the client's tastes are. Often I find myself able to provide a unique, inspired piece that suits the client perfectly!
If you are looking for unique jewelry made of quality components, you have found the right place! I have spent over seven years perfecting my skills as an artisan, while also researching gemstones and locating trustworthy sellers. My attention to detail and quality means that my pieces are worthy of becoming your family's heirlooms!
I am located in NW Houston, and have lived in Texas nearly my entire life. We are currently in the process of finding a home! I hope to be able to move into a place that opens doors for my artistic pursuits.
In addition to my artisan creations, I create coloring pages and have used some of my original designs to create teeshirts. These shirts are available! here
Another passion of mine is conservation and preservation of both land and local wildlife. As such, I am a licensed reptile relocator, working in tandem with other people in our local areas to remove snakes that are not welcome on someone's properties, and place them in a safe wooded area nearby. I do this free of charge, and I welcome you to email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are in need of a reptile relocation. I have many contacts in other areas of Texas, and I am part of a Facebook group specifically for identification and relocation of native reptiles. It is called The State of Texas: Reptile Relocation.
You can find my work on Instagram, Facebook, and Etsy.
I sometimes find inspiration in odd places, and when the Muse calls, I follow.
Design usually starts with a single element or idea. I simply love working with color, and prefer to make elegant, simple jewelry. I want my jewelry to be something beautiful, that doesn't overtake the wearer. My designs can be elegant, beautiful, bold, flirty, fun, eclectic, whimsical, or silly.
I also am a part of a few amazing forums and jewelry making groups for Wire Wrappers, ChainMaille artisans, and Bead Lovers.
I am constantly looking to repurpose old jewelry and make it into something new. Bags of broken jewelry are sometimes treasure troves of unique, one of a kind pieces that just need some TLC!! Feel free to contact me if you have bags of old, broken jewelry that you do not know what to do with!
